  • Internap launches BusinessNet Service to enhance network data collaboration capabilities

    Internap Network Services Corporation has launched BusinessNet Service. Using GlobalRoute Xcelerator (GRX) technology, BusinessNet dramatically improves network performance and delivers "LAN-like" performance for TCP-based applications over the Internet. BusinessNet enables data intensive supply chain and workflow applications to be deployed around the globe by addressing problems associated with unpredictable performance and distance-induced latency of geographically dispersed networks.

  • Globix new technology offerings

    Following its recent merger with NEON, Globix's service portfolio includes a new Networking Services category based on NEON's optical networking capabilities. Network Services provide telecommunication products and services to carriers and large enterprise customers in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic markets. In addition, Globix recently introduced Digital Exchange, a comprehensive digital asset management platform that is now part of its Media Services solution.

  • Hostworks launches ASP service

    Hostworks, the Australian managed services provider, has launched a software-as-a-service capability targeting reductions in IT operational costs, and enhanced business continuity for medium-sized enterprise customers (companies of 150 size). With data centres in Sydney and Adelaide the company will deliver software applications, ranging from email and Microsoft Office to proprietary business applications, via either broadband Internet or dedicated links to Hostworks.

  • HostRocket launches VoIP service in USA

    Managed hosting provider HostRocket has launched a new VoIP telephone service in all 50 states (2,200 metro markets). The service offering includes unlimited local and long distance calling starting at under US$200 yearly or 500 minutes of long distance calling monthly starting at under US$120 yearly. The company provides shared web hosting services to approximately 50,000 websites.

  • SunGard email archiving service

    SunGard Availability Services has launched an Archiving Service for Messaging to assist companies in their efforts to meet Sarbanes-Oxley retention requirements and other regulatory and transparency concerns. The service captures e-mails and transmits them to a secure SunGard repository for archiving. The e-mails subsequently can be retrieved through an intuitive interface, according to the vendor. SunGard provides customers with the required hardware, software and network resources, as well as ongoing monitoring and management services.

  • Analysts predict robust storage service market trends

    Analysts at Robert W Baird expect the US data storage and services sector to witness reasonably robust end-market demand trends in 2H 2005. According to the latest data, about 85% of total end-users have projected flat to up full-year budgets for 2005, while 40% of the end-users expect an increase of at least 3% from the year-ago levels.

  • Citrix acquires NetScaler

    Access infrastructure solutions provider, Citrix Systems, Inc has signed an agreement to acquire NetScaler, Inc., a high-performance application networking player. The transaction is valued at approximately US$300 million in cash and stock, plus the assumption of approximately US$23 million in unvested stock options. The deal is expected to close in 3Q 2005 subject to conditions and regulatory approvals. Based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Citrix has offices in 22 countries and approximately 6,200 channel and alliance partners in more than 100 countries.

  • Hostway acquires Server Service GMBH

    Hostway Corporation a web hosting and managed services provider has acquired German server and co-location provider Server Service GmbH. The German organisation currently has more than 5,000 web servers racked in 2 multi-redundant, state-of-the-art datacentres located in Hannover and Frankfurt.

  • SingTel Expan forms Pan-Asian chain of data centres

    Built on SingTel's network infrastructure, Expan has developed one of the most extensive regional points of presence with 12 data centre facilities located in 6 countries: Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. Beyond this, the company has concluded 25 marketing alliances in 8 countries. Counting Visa, HP, MTV and Real Networks among its client base, the SingTel Telecommunications Complex also secured BP Singapore when it opened its Most of the World Mega Data Centre earlier this year.

  • Multiplex reported to be selling stake in Global Switch

    Multiplex is reported to be selling its stake in Global Switch, the London-based data centre company it part-acquired through last year's buyout of Chelsfield in the UK. Global Switch, which runs data warehousing centres that provide data storage room and satellite services, is 75 per cent owned by Aldersgate, Multiplex's joint venture with the Reuben brothers. Morley Fund Management owns the remainder.

  • Data Centre Trends: US Financial Services companies

    Data centres used by US financial services companies are increasingly much larger and even figure as an important factor in any merger or acquisition. Large banks are trending to a minimum of 2 major data centres and a number of regional ones. Smaller banks tend to have a single data centre. The average data centre size for a typical large bank (more than 5 million customers and 1000 branches) is between 12,000 - 24,000 sq ft. Smaller regional data centres are sized at around 4,000 - 8,000 sq. ft. Upgrades are tending to be 1-3U single servers or blades.

  • Sun Microsystems to acquire StorageTek

    Sun Microsystems has reached a definitive agreement to acquire StorageTek. The deal, which is expected to close during the late summer or autumn of this year, subject to the customary regulatory and shareholder approvals, values StorageTek at around US$4.1 billion and represents a premium of around 15 percent over StorageTek's initial share price.

  • Clifford Chance selects Redbus

    Redbus Interhouse (France) SA, the French division of the colocation and managed services provider, has signed a major contract with international global law firm, Clifford Chance. Under the terms of the agreement, Redbus Interhouse will provide a fully secured housing environment for Clifford Chance's core Southern and Eastern European IT infrastructure and dedicated servers.

  • Perot Systems

    Perot Systems business process solutions centres in Chennai, India have received the BS 7799-2:2002 IT Security Certification. All of Perot Systems' operations in India are now ISO9001:2000 and BS 7799 certified. In addition, the company's Technology Services unit in Bangalore and Noida (near Delhi) achieved CMMI Level 5 in 2003 and People CMM Level 5 and BS 7799 in 2004. This latest BS 7799 certification covers the people, processes, technology, and facilities associated with information security management delivered from its three facilities in Chennai.

  • Indosat deploys POP at Equinix IBX

    PT Indosat Tbk, has deployed a network Point-of-Presence (POP) within Equinix's Singapore Internet Business Exchange (IBX) centre. The deal will enable Indosat to streamline its network connectivity and reduce intermediate transit.

  • Philippines Government promotes knowledge process outsourcing

    The Department of Trade and Industry in the Philippines is supporting entry into knowledge process outsourcing (KPO), particularly in basic land development and design for housing and commercial complexes. KPO refers to high-value processes done outside a company, considered the next wave of services to be offshored to developing nations from Western countries. Vertical industries that may have KPO requirements include pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, ICT, research and development, and legal services among others.

  • KPN select FiberNet for traffic distribution

    FiberNet Telecom Group, Inc. a provider of complex metro data services, has been selected by KPN to distribute its traffic to its destination partners in the United States. KPN will cross connect with leading carriers through a customized, virtual presence at FiberNet's 60 Hudson Street Meet-Me-Room facility. KPN cited the combination of FiberNet's integrated colocation facilities, continuous on-site support and access to multiple carriers as the primary reason for the selection.

  • India leads in global outsourcing

    India currently still leads in global outsourcing, although it is now also investing in establishing offshore facilities in other countries with low cost labour.

  • Switch and Data / Looking Glass Networks

    Switch and Data has signed an agreement with Looking Glass Networks Inc. to expand into one of Switch and Data's colocation and interconnection sites in New York. As part of its expansion, Looking Glass Networks now provides lit transport and dark fibre services to Switch & Data locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto, San Jose, and Washington, D.C. Dark fibre is optical fibre infrastructure (cabling and repeaters) that is currently in place but is not being used.

  • Only 11% of global jobs can be performed remotely

    McKinsey, the global consultancy has reported that only 11% of jobs globally can be performed remotely. McKinsey estimated that in 2003, 1.5 million service jobs were performed in lower-wage countries for customers in high-wage economies. By 2008, that number is expected to reach 4.1 million, or 1.2 percent of total services jobs in developed countries. According to McKinsey nearly half the jobs in the packaged software and IT services sectors could in theory, move offshore. In banking and insurance, 25 percent and 19 percent, respectively, of jobs are potentially mobile.

  • Equinix to provide Asia IT Hub for Carlyle Group

    The Carlyle Group, a global private equity firm, with nearly US$30 billion under management has selected Equinix's Hong Kong Internet Business Exchange(TM) (IBX) centre to deploy the company's Asia Pacific IT operations. Carlyle has an extensive IT infrastructure that requires the ability to rapidly exchange data within the company's Asia Pacific operations under the highest levels of security and performance. Power operations at each data centre include a high-performance backup system that provides uninterrupted power even in the event of utility power disruption.

  • NaviSite joint marketing with SingTel

    NaviSite, Inc has signed an agreement with Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) to jointly market and sell managed infrastructure services in both Asia and North America. SingTel will resell NaviSite's managed services including colocation, fully managed hosting and advanced content delivery solutions to its Asian customer base. NaviSite will likewise be able to resell SingTel's Managed Hosting Telco Infrastructure services in Asia Pacific to its global clients.

  • LogicaCMG wins Metronet Rail contract

    LogicaCMG has won an £18 million win at Metronet Rail, which is contracted to maintain and upgrade two-thirds of the London Underground network, covers a six-year period. The consultancy has taken over the support and management of Metronet's data centre and will provide services from remote and local offices.

  • Telehouse America to provide managed services for Yamaha Music

    Telehouse America has entered an agreement with Yamaha Music Interactive, Inc. to provide the global musical instrument manufacturer's interactive arm with colocation facilities and managed services. Yamaha will use Telehouse's Broadway Centre to house and manage their enterprise operation. The Broadway Centre, also known as 25B, is in downtown Manhattan at 25 Broadway. It offers dedicated colocation space, high-end managed services, and 24x7 onsite support to a broad spectrum of industries and companies.
