  • Equinix And Neustar Collaborate to Provide New SIP Based Services

    Equinix, Inc the provider of network-neutral data centres and Internet exchange services, and NeuStar a provider of clearinghouse services to the global communications industry have entered an agreement to jointly develop the first in a new generation of services to enhance the interconnection of networks providing advanced services under Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Trials for the new service are currently underway, and are open to interested participants, with a planned product introduction in the first half of 2006.

  • STT To Sell Equinix Stake

    STT Communications has announced the sale of its entire holding of 10.2m shares in Equinix, a stake of about a third of the company on a fully diluted basis. About half the stock will be made available via a public offering with the balance sold through a forward contract arranged with CSFB.

  • Equinix Revenues Up

    The company has reported its quarterly results for the period ended September 30, 2005.Revenues were US$58.1 million for the third quarter, a 37% increase over the same quarter last year and an 11% increase over the previous quarter. Recurring revenues, consisting of colocation, interconnection and managed services, were US$54.3 million, a 36% increase over the same quarter last year and a 10% increase over the previous quarter.

  • Hosted Solutions Increases 3Q Sales Results

    Hosted Solutions, the Carolinas' based data centre and hosting company, has increased 3Q sales results, highlighted by 15 client wins totalling US$8.6 million. The company offers services in its Raleigh, Cary and Charlotte data centres. Hosted Solutions is currently finalising a previously announced merger with DataPipe, a Hoboken, N.J.-based company with data centres in New York, London, and San Jose. The companies will be announcing the opening of a seventh data centre later this year.

  • Data Centre New Build in South Africa

    A new state-of-the-art data centre in Midrand, South Africa hopes to attract foreign companies to store data in South Africa. To be built at a cost of R143-million, the new centre will comprise two buildings that are to be linked via two dark-fibre optic cables, to prevent any interruptions in information flow. Two sites were located that would allow the construction of two separate buildings in one business park. Built to international standards, the centres promise unscheduled downtime of less than 24 minutes a year and the twin data centres will allow instant mirroring of information.

  • Data Electronics Invests ?2.5 Million In Facility Expansion

    Data Electronics has opened a new 2.5 million extension to its Data Centre facility in Kilcarbery Park, Dublin. The 13,000 sq feet expansion takes the facility up to 21,000 sq feet. Vodafone is the first major company to be hosted at the new facility following a multi-million euro competitive contract to house part of its voice and data infrastructure. The expansion is the first of its kind in Ireland since the downturn in the data centre market in 2000, highlighting an important resurgence and demand by businesses to support and service their IT infrastructure.

  • Experian Expands Data Centre

    Experian Ltd., the global information solutions company based in the UK, will use Raritan's remote management solutions to maintain servers in its new data centre. The new 700-server data centre to support its extensive European operations is expected to grow to 5,000 servers, replaced two processing centres - one of which became Experian's disaster recovery data centre.

    Switch and Data, a neutral Internet exchange and colocation provider, has deployed its 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GigE) platform in three sites. As part of its PAIX peering services, the 10GigE PAIX switch is now operational in Switch and Data's Palo Alto site and in New York City at both 111 8th Avenue and 60 Hudson. Switch and Data now offers 10GigE peering capacity on both the East and West Coast.

  • Outsourcing Net Positive For USA

    A new study by Global Insight, commissioned by the IT Association of America (ITAA) has said that the "incremental economic activity" triggered by offshoring is likely to create new jobs in the US by 2010. Stating that global sourcing was a "net positive" for American workers and the US economy, the ITAA President, Mr Harris N. Miller, said that by driving down the costs associated with computer software and services, global sourcing sharpened the US' competitive edge at home and abroad.

    Global Net Access (GNAX) has acquired a new 75k sq.ft building to be managed by Colo Facilities Atlanta. According to the company, the building will survive tornado strength winds. It is 5 miles from their current location and situated on the way to the airport and on a major fibre ring owned by the local gas utility. GNAX has signed a lease for 25,000 sq.ft of space in the NAP and will begin operations in the new building in January 2006. The remaining 50,000 sq.ft will be available for rent immediately for data centre and colocation operations.

  • IBM Extends Lead in Worldwide Outsourcing Marketplace, Analyst Says

    IBM has extended its leadership in outsourcing, according to just-released statistics from IDC's analysis of the top 100 outsourcing deals of 2004. According to IDC, IBM captured 21 of the biggest 100 contracts worldwide, 13 more than the nearest competitor, CSC. IBM led in the number of IT outsourcing contracts with 17 deals and co-led in Business Process Outsourcing contracts, with four deals, IDC said. The IDC report indicates that Business Process Outsourcing contracts represented 25 percent of the Top 100 deals in 2004, up from 15.2 percent in 2003.
