Singapore Promotes SS507 As Global Standard In a presentation to the audience at the recent Internet Data Centres Asia event held in Singapore, Mr Lau Soon Liang, director of Government Operations at the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore, provided a review of the new SS507 standard, business continuity and disaster recovery, which is likely to be adopted as a global standard by the ISO at the end of this year. First launched in 2004, the standard was designed to reinforce Singapore’s position as a trusted global business hub, and a location of choice for BC/DR. The standard specifies stringent requirements that must be met by BC/DR service providers to enable a robust operating environment and help companies to secure and recover critical data in a crisis. Singapore is home to 7,000 MNCs of which 60% set up their regional headquarters in Singapore, and where many others have set up global or regional data centres and IT hubs. The country also has more than 28 Terabit per second (as of May 2006) of high speed submarine cable capacity connected to more than 100 countries.
