Equinix has broken ground on SG5, a 52 MW carrier-neutral data centre in Singapore's Tuas industrial district. The facility, representing an investment of approximately SGD 560 million, is one of the first new data centres approved under Singapore's revised green data centre framework following the lifting of the construction moratorium.
SG5 has been designed to meet the government's stringent sustainability requirements, incorporating tropical-optimised cooling systems, on-site solar generation, and a commitment to achieving a PUE of 1.3 or below. The facility will also feature Equinix's Fabric interconnection platform, providing tenants with direct access to over 200 cloud service providers and financial exchanges across the Asia-Pacific region.
Singapore's limited land and power constraints have made it one of the most supply-constrained data centre markets in the world, with vacancy rates consistently below 3%. The approval of SG5 underscores Equinix's long-standing commitment to the Singapore market, where it operates four existing facilities. SG5 is expected to be operational by Q1 2027.
