NTT Global Data Centers has announced a major 120 MW expansion of its Inzai campus in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo. The JPY 100 billion investment will add two new data centre buildings designed specifically for hyperscale cloud and AI training workloads, with the first phase expected to be operational by Q4 2027.

The Inzai campus, situated along the Joban Expressway corridor, is one of Tokyo's premier data centre locations, offering excellent connectivity to central Tokyo financial and business districts while benefiting from more favourable land costs and power availability. The expansion will bring the campus's total capacity to over 200 MW.

Japan's data centre market has experienced unprecedented demand growth, driven by government initiatives to promote cloud adoption, the expansion of AI research and development, and Tokyo's role as the primary connectivity hub for the Asia-Pacific region. NTT's expansion includes advanced cooling infrastructure designed for Japan's humid climate, incorporating a hybrid approach combining indirect evaporative cooling and liquid cooling for high-density deployments.
