Amazon Web Services has announced a $6.2 billion investment to develop a 200 MW hyperscale data centre campus in Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur. The campus will serve as AWS's first availability zone in Malaysia, establishing a full-region presence in one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing digital economies.
The Cyberjaya campus will be developed across multiple phases, with the first 60 MW phase expected to be operational by Q3 2027. The investment includes not only data centre infrastructure but also dedicated submarine cable connectivity, edge networking equipment, and a regional training centre for cloud skills development.
Malaysia has emerged as an increasingly attractive destination for hyperscale data centre investment, offering competitive electricity prices, political stability, and a government actively promoting digital infrastructure development through its Malaysia Digital initiative. AWS's commitment follows similar announcements by Google and Microsoft in the Malaysian market, positioning Kuala Lumpur as a key emerging hub for Southeast Asian cloud infrastructure.
