AirTrunk has commenced construction on SYD2, a new 110 MW hyperscale data centre campus in Western Sydney, Australia. The AUD 1.1 billion development will be one of the largest data centres in the Southern Hemisphere, designed to support cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads with a commitment to 100% renewable energy from day one.
The SYD2 campus, located in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis precinct, will benefit from proximity to the new Western Sydney International Airport and major fiber interconnection routes. The facility design incorporates AirTrunk's modular architecture, enabling rapid deployment of capacity in response to tenant requirements.
Australia's data centre market has experienced strong growth, driven by government cloud-first policies, the expansion of hyperscale cloud regions in Sydney and Melbourne, and increasing demand for AI compute infrastructure. AirTrunk, which was acquired by Macquarie Asset Management in 2024, has positioned itself as Asia-Pacific's leading hyperscale data centre operator. SYD2 will complement AirTrunk's existing SYD1 facility, creating a dual-campus presence in the Sydney market with combined capacity exceeding 200 MW.
