Equinix has announced MN1, its first data centre in Manchester, marking a significant expansion into the UK's second-largest data centre market. The 45 MW facility represents a £350 million investment and will offer Equinix's full suite of interconnection and colocation services.
Manchester's growing status as a technology and media hub, combined with overflow demand from London's constrained western corridor, has made it an increasingly attractive market for major operators. MN1 will be located in the Trafford Park area, with access to diverse fibre routes and proximity to major enterprise customers.
The facility is expected to open in Q3 2027 and will target financial services, media, and technology companies based in the North of England, as well as hyperscale cloud providers seeking geographic diversity within the UK.
