Meta Platforms has signed a landmark 300 MW pre-lease agreement with Chief Telecom in Taipei, representing one of the largest single data centre transactions in Asia-Pacific history. The facility, located in Changhua County, will support Meta's AI training infrastructure and serve as a hub for content delivery across the Asia-Pacific region.
Taiwan's strategic position as a subsea cable hub, combined with its competitive power costs and proximity to the semiconductor supply chain, makes it an increasingly attractive location for hyperscale deployments. The Chief Telecom campus will be connected to multiple trans-Pacific and intra-Asian cable systems.
The deal signals growing hyperscaler interest in Taiwan as a data centre destination, though political considerations and the island's seismic risk profile remain factors in long-term planning. Meta's commitment is expected to encourage additional investment from competing hyperscalers.
