Equinix and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) have completed the acquisition of atNorth, the Iceland-based data centre operator, from Partners Group for approximately $4 billion. atNorth operates facilities across Iceland, Sweden, and Finland with approximately 350 MW of capacity, specialising in high-performance computing and AI training workloads.
The acquisition gives Equinix a significant presence in the Nordic HPC market, where cold climates enable extensive free cooling and abundant renewable energy (particularly Iceland's geothermal and hydroelectric resources) supports sustainability goals. atNorth's facilities are particularly well-suited for AI training workloads that benefit from the region's low-cost, carbon-free power.
